വളരെ ശ്രദ്ധാപൂര്‍വ്വം മനസ്സിലാക്കേണ്ടതാണ് 'as if/as though(എന്ന പോലെ)' ഉപയോഗം.as if ആയാലും as though ആയാലും അര്‍ത്ഥം ഒന്നു തന്നെയാണ്.വര്‍ത്തമാന കാലവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ പറയുമ്പോള്‍ 'as if/as though' ന് ശേഷം വരുന്ന ക്രിയാപ്രയോഗം വര്‍ത്തമാന(present)കാലത്തിലും ഭൂതകാല(past)ത്തിലും വരാം.വര്‍ത്തമാന കാലത്തിലാണ് 'as if/as though' ന് ശേഷം വരുന്ന ക്രിയാപ്രയോഗമെങ്കില്‍ പറയുന്ന കാര്യം സത്യമായിരിക്കാം അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ സത്യമായിരിക്കാന്‍ സാധ്യതയുണ്ട് അതുമല്ലെങ്കില്‍ സത്യമായി തോന്നിപ്പിക്കുന്ന തരത്തില്‍ തെളിവുകള്‍/ലക്ഷണങ്ങള്‍ എന്നിവയുണ്ട് എന്ന്‍ അനുമാനിക്കാം.നേരെ മറിച്ച് 'as if/as though' ന് ശേഷം വരുന്ന ക്രിയാപ്രയോഗം ഭൂതകാലത്തിലാണെങ്കില്‍ പറയുന്ന കാര്യം അസത്യമാണ് അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ സത്യമായിരിക്കാന്‍ സാധ്യതയോ ലക്ഷണങ്ങളോ ഇല്ല എന്നു വേണം കരുതാന്‍.ചില ഉദാഹരണങ്ങള്‍ നോക്കാം
